I wanted to open up a conversation about a tool that many of us probably haven’t thought about in a while—MapQuest. Yeah, that MapQuest. Remember printing out turn-by-turn directions for road trips back in the early 2000s? It was the go-to navigation tool before smartphones and GPS apps took over.

But here’s the thing: I recently revisited MapQuest out of curiosity, and I was honestly surprised by how far it’s come.

The interface is cleaner, the directions are solid, and the route options include everything from avoiding tolls to scenic drives. It even has live traffic updates and integrates with fuel price locators, hotels, and local attractions. It’s kind of a hidden gem right now—especially if you're tired of the usual big-name navigation apps tracking your every move or throwing ads in your face every two minutes.

A few standout things I noticed:

Super accurate ETAs in recent tests (often beating Google Maps on shorter urban routes)

Multiple routing options that actually feel different (not just variations of the same highway)

A web version that’s surprisingly fast and super detailed

Print options (yes, still!) for those who like to have a backup on paper

Less clutter and almost no annoying popups

So it got me thinking—is MapQuest quietly making a comeback? Or has it just been sitting there all along, underrated and underused?

Honestly didn’t expect the <a href="https://mapsdirectionsdriving.com/">Mapquest</a> ETA to be more accurate than Google Maps, but here we are. Pleasantly surprised! Minimal ads, clean design, and zero nonsense. Finally, a map app that doesn’t try to sell me pizza halfway through my commute.
